Abstract: Robert Muczynski (1929-2010), a 20th century American composer-pianist, wrote three piano sonatas. This document will examine his Second Piano Sonata, Op. 22. to familiarize the reader with this lesser-known work. This document includes a stylistic analysis of his Second Piano Sonata, including a formal, melodic, harmonic, rhythmic and textural analysis with detailed performance suggestions based on the author’s personal experience for pianists who are exploring Muczynski’s piano works, especially that which focuses on his second sonata.
