Air University Style Guide For Writers And Editors

Writing for pub. in the Air Force (AF) is different in many ways from writing for commercial publication or writing for a newspaper or a scholarly journal. The basic tenets of English usage are the same, of course, but audiences are different, & terminology is specialized. This guide prescribes simple rules for the most common problems facing the AF writer. It clarifies & simplifies matters for the writer by removing the most common obstacles to readability in AF writing: overuse of capitalization, of acronyms & other forms of abbrev., & of passive voice. AF Univ. prefers an open-punctuation style, which discourages the overuse of commas, colons, & semicolons & the use of periods in abbrev. Arranged in dictionary style, enhanced by extensive cross-ref.
