Dry eye is defined as multifactorial condition of tears and ocular surface, characterized by symptoms of discomfort, visual disturbance and tear film instability. There is paucity of data on dry eye in the pediatric population which may be children do not self-report symptoms of the disease. Several factors linked to dry eye disease such as; environmental conditions, congenital defects, nutritional abnormalities, and medications, inflammation, and endocrine system responses are discussed.
