A computer program has been developed to analyze the static, transient and steady state response of nonlinear circuits. The static or d.c. response of the circuit is obtained by using a nodal based Newton-Raphson iterative technique which has been modified to eliminate the usual instability and which gives fast reliable answers. The transient response is determined by using an A-stable variable step size integration formula applied directly to the nodal equations. With the mechanism for transient analysis established it is then possible to perform periodic analysis of nonlinear circuits through the use of a Newton iterative technique that will handle autonomous and non-autonomous systems and which has been found to be more reliable than harmonic balance techniques and which is much faster than simply integrating the equations until the transients become negligible. This technique then is especially valuable for analyzing high Q circuits and for design purposes where fast analysis is essential. (Author).
