The papers consist of a nineteen page typed transcript of an end-of-tour interview with Major General George Allen Crocker. The interview was conducted by Delores De Mena, U.S. Army South historian, at Fort Clayton, Republic of Panama, on 22 February 1995 while Crocker served as Commanding General, United States Army South (USARSO). Crocker described the objectives given by his predecessor, General Joulwan, at the beginning of Crocker's assignment in Panama. Mission readiness, the drawdown, Operation Just Cause, and Operation Promote Liberty were main topics of discussion throughout the interview. Crocker's leadership style, present concerns and plans for the future of USARSO, Joint Task Force-Panama, the situation at Guantanamo Bay, and the Army's role in the war on drugs were also discussed. This oral history is number 022 in the Operation Promote Liberty Oral History Program.
