Georgia Civil War Soldiers Index Part 2 Surnames J R

This index contains the name and unit of service for 284,000 men who served in the Civil War from Georgia. It includes the man's name, unit (Regiment or Battalion) of service and Company. A Bibliography showing available materials for research is also included. We have identified 357 Confederate Units and 1 Federal Unit formed in Georgia. Approximately 15% have first hand accounts and regimental histories available. Presently we have Historical Sketch and Roster Volumes on 96 of the units. Because of the size of this index, it is published in 3 volumes. This volume contains surnames J- R. Companion volumes contains surnames A - I and S - Z. We also have a companion volume, "Index to Georgia Civil War Soldiers Records Found Elsewhere" which contains 56,000 names referencing records of Georgia men who served in other states, as well as burial records and POW records. All three of these indexes are also available on CD-ROM.
