"Aircraft collision with birds and other wildlife pose a significant risk to and cost the aviation industry hundreds of millions of dollars in damage and lost revenue every year. Most wildlife strikes occur with the airport environment; thus, the responsibility for mitigation falls upon the airport operator. Wildlife attractants that provide food, shelter, and water are often located in or adjacent to airports. This report presents information from literature and illustrative case examples on habitat management to deter wildlife at airports and manage risk to aviation.
