Published in 1907, this work aims to present the real incidents of various exciting episodes in the thrilling sport of cave exploring. In addition, it explains the scientific results of investigations in the Mendip region of Somerset. The chapters about the scientific results are written by H. E. Balch, who worked on the geology of Mendip, among the caves, for over twenty years. On the other hand, the reports of actual incidents focusing more on the adventures are by E. A. Baker.
