With proud enthusiasm and with the greatest success, I presented the treasures of our noble German Lied in Paris, Moscow, Petrograd, and other European cities. I sang for the first time in America at Carnegie Hall, New York, January 9, 1912, which was followed by appearances in Boston and all the large cities as far as Denver. So warmly was I received, with so much sympathy and understanding, that on this my third American tour I have had the feeling of singing my songs not to an impersonal public but to dear friends. And to these friends I dedicate this collection of the finest pearls from my song treasure, with the hearty wish that it may serve to keep me in their memory.
