On the 19th of February 2008, a nine year-old girl named Shannon Matthews was reported missing to West Yorkshire Police by her mother Karen Matthews. The family lived in Dewsbury Moor - a district of Dewsbury, West Yorkshire. Shannon had last been seen outside of Westmoor Junior School just after three in the afternoon. When she failed to return from a swimming trip, Karen Matthews telephoned the police. So began one of the more bewildering missing persons cases in memory.
