Excerpt from Sixth Annual Report of the National Committee for Prevention of Blindness, Inc: December 31, 1920 There comes a time in the operations Of an army when it is the function of the general to consolidate positions. It is a time of no outstanding and tremendous movement, but is none the less an important part of the strategy of war. The activities of the Sixth year of the National Committee for the Prevention of Blindness might very appropriately be characterized as con solidating our positions. Recognition of the importance and effective character of our work is greater today and it is because Of the faithful and earnest work of the members of this stafi that we have won our position of commanding influence. Conservation of vision classes in the public schools are growing in number, as educators have discovered through the efforts Of our Committee that it is practicable to Open such classes even in cities smaller than the largest. The present census of such classes is 62, Of which number 12 have been established within the year. SO far as known the states which now support such classes include Illinois, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Washington. There is no more hopeful part Of our work than this and we are proud to have contributed a considerable part to the establishment of these classes.
