The Avalon started as The Idlewild in 1915. Her name was changed to the Avalon in 1948. In 1950 she was sold to Steamer Avalon, Inc. where she was operated as an excursion boat on the Mississippi, Ohio, Missouri, and Kanawha Rivers until being sold in 1962 to the Jefferson County Fiscal Court and renamed as the Belle of Louisville.
