Booklet aims to help the student become aware of the phenomena, principles and problems of stress and unstress in polysyllabic words in English. Examines native stress patterns through stressed base syllables words with either unstressed prefixes or following unstressed syllables. Also details foreign stress patterns, with categories of words whose stress is immediately before selected suffixes, or two syllables before selected suffixes, or where the stress is on the suffix, and other patterns. Includes a capsule history of English language influences.
