Grivon D'Gaul wants nothing more than to become The Autocrat, the supreme ruler of Merkadiah. Unfortunately, he hasn't finished the training necessary to realize that goal. Between being ostracized by fellow students and baring the name of a politician long dead, he has his work cut out for him. That is until he meets Phoy Yin who opens the doors to Grivon's destiny. Grivon soon learns he has limitations, and those lofty goals aren't realized quickly, as a beautiful assassin pursues him, his only friends betray him, and he slowly loses grasp on his sanity.
