The Directory Of American Toolmakers

This is largest single source of information on North American toolmakers ever compiled. It has been updated and is currently available on CD. The heart of the directory is its main list which includes over 14,000 maker's names, the geographic location of the maker as well as the work location(s) (when available), the working years of the maker, the tool types are separated into 73 categories, and description of the marks on the tools. With over 1,200 pages containing over 14,000 entries and over 5,000 supplemental names dating back to as early as 1636, together with cross-references, indexes, and lists of primary and secondary sources, this is an invaluable resource. Tool collectors, museum curators, genealogists, and historians of North American technology will find this publication beneficial.
