Excerpt from Annual Report of the Receipts and Expenditures, and of the Several Departments: For the Municipal Year 1884 Before concluding the very brief duties Which now remain for me to perform, I desire to express to every officer and member of the City Government with whom I have been associated, my sincere thanks for the many courtesies and favors extended to me during my administration, and especially to acknowledge my great obligations to John B. Stevens, Jr., our City Clerk, Whose familiarity With city affairs and constant readiness are only equaled by his ability and faithfulness in his position. I would also congratulate the members of the Councils of 188 3-84 upon the grand result of their labors as manifested by the present condition of the city in all its municipal departments, and do not deem it improper, in a brief manner, to refer to the work of the past two years, the present condition of the city, and in a few instances repeat suggestions which I deem of importance to its welfare. The reports of the heads of the various departments will give you a complete and accurate account of each, which I believe can not fail to be entirely satisfactory.
