Before the Jamestown colonists reached their final shore, they arrived at a place they named Cape Henry, and beyond that lay an inlet that would one day shelter the towns of Hampton Roads: Chesapeake, Hampton, Newport News, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Suffolk, and Virginia Beach.
