In them we are testing some 20 different kinds of materials as coatings for the bases of tree trunks to prevent the attacks of borers and other enemies. The work was started on apples in 1909, in the Experimental orchard at the College, and was extended to peaches in 1910 in an orchard near Bellefonte. The latter work was discontinued in 1913, and again taken up on 'the peach both locally and in an orchard near Tarentum in Allegheny County, in 1915.
