Argumentation belongs to the family of human actions which aim to convince. Many communication situations indeed aim to suggest and, possibly, to obtain from a person, an audience, a public, that they adopt a certain behavior or that they share a certain opinion. These situations are frequently encountered in everyday life, on both a private and professional level, for example in the more general framework of negotiation. The act of convincing is generally presented as a possible alternative to the use of physical violence. One can indeed obtain from others an act, generally unwanted, by using force. Renouncing the use of force represents a step towards more humanity, towards a shared and not imposed social bond.
